Latin America: The End of an Era

This is a long article, but gives an interesting perspective on recent political and financial developments in Latin America. I found the article linked from this post by the same author at The Huffington Post about the possibility of Ecuador defaulting on its foreign debt, a la Argentina (which apparently hasn’t worked out too badly for them). The sweet irony of the whole situation is that the new found financial clout of Venezuela (which along with the rhetoric of Chavez, is a thorn in the side of the US) is due to their increased oil wealth—which has been fueled (pun intended) by our war in Iraq. With all of Chavez’s neighbors watching his back, hopefully it will be sometime before the US encourages another coup.
